UK:
Our Grandfather, Derrick, had a good long life, full of adventure, sailing, opera and fine whisky. In his late 80s, when his future with an illness looked too bleak and no longer something he could suave his way through, he decided to sell or donate all that he could and chose how he wanted to go. He always said: “Many don’t have the courage to die on their own terms.” He made his choice.
We grieved, but felt lifted from some of the pain and questions that we had experienced with others in our family; it was his decision and his life.
For those of you who have experienced a similar moment in your life, know that you are not alone.
You may feel that this post has taken a sad tone or you may reject the thought that the title of this section represents. It is totally understandable and we are not here to change your mind, just share our experience and the positive that this can bring to others in dark times.
